Google + You Tube = GooTube & You
It's got people talking (ok, podcasting), bloggers blogging, and some, like Mark Cuban, scratching their heads. From TechCrunch to the WSJ, everyone is talking about Google's $1.65B acquisition of You Tube. In a statement released by Google, Google assures the community at large that You Tube will "operate independenty to preserve its successful brand and passionate community."
It will be interesting to see how this video content will extend Google's reach. While there is question about You Tube's potential, it has solidified a brand position for itself and a loyal community of contributors, followers and fans in a very short span of time.
I think that while others may be harsh on this move, I feel that Google recognizes the bigger tectonic shift from TV to Internet, from text to new media. Cataloguing the written word, now moving on to the spoken word. I think it is a brilliant move in this big game of innovator's monopoly!
